Day 96 Extras

Day 96 West Clifton - Linlithgow

A canal day followed by a meeting with puppy walkers arranged by local GuideDog organiser Nikki.

Day 95 Wild camp - West Clifton

Finally left the Borders after nearly a week's walking as we passed over Cauldstane Slap. Then onto Corston Hill with great views all round including Edinburgh.
Countryside walking even though we're now away from the hills. A nice campsite for the night after 3 nights wild gaming!

Day 94 Meldon Burn - Cairn Muir

We made our way to the Pentlands via West Linton. Met nobody all day then in the space of an hour met a flat coat owner and Barney had a girlfriend! Then we met the Laird's mother who previously had a flat coat and suggested a good spot to camp. Then we were invited in for a cup of tea by Carolyn who lives next to the Drove Road we were following. A great afternoon!
The picture inside the tent shows a water container filled with stream water, not what you might think it is from the colour!

Day 93 Bothy - Meldon Burn

Decided to shorten the stage and camp at Meldon Burn but it turned out to be a weekend campsite for drinkers etc. - not good as you may be able to see from one of the pictures showing rubbish left around.

Day 92 Extras

Day 92 Melrose - Minch Moor Bothy

A long day which included the 3 Brethren and then some fine high level walking. Due to problems with the app used to publish these posts, the picture order is not chronological and some pictures are in an additional post.

Day 90 Jedburgh - Melrose

A long day of over 20 miles through the borders.
Dere St.(Roman road) took us to St. Boswells where we followed the River Tweed for a number of miles.
The sting in the tail was the climb over the Eildon Hills to get to Melrose! The cloud came down as we neared the climb so no pics of the view.
Arrived at nearly 9pm so fish & chips for all of us!

Day 89 Town Yetholm - Jedburgh

One of the few days where we finished south of where we started.
We followed St Cuthbert's Way but the way marked route has changed from when our maps were produced so we were on a magical mystery tour! Eventually got to Jedburgh 18.5 miles later!

Day 88 Wild camp - Town Yetholm

A wet walk so we missed most of the views but two big occasions, we've walked out of England and finished the Pennine Way.
After getting our customary free half pint in the pub at Kirk Yetholm we are now staying with friends Angie and John at Town Yetholm. A good meal and the luxury of a bed tonight - thanks!

Day 87 Byrness - Wild Camp

High level walking, much of it alongside the border fence with the sound of gunfire from across the valley. We passed a number of troops, probably heading towards the battle (the Pennine Way is next to the Otterburn Ranges)!
Finally camped in England for the last time this trip next to the border fence.

Day 86 Bellingham - Byrness

A classic Northumberland day - moorland & forest, rain, sunshine & midges!

Day 85 Stonehaugh - Bellingham

A short day with full sacks. Went past Shitlington Crags (spelling is correct!), then crossed the North Tyne to enter Bellingham.

Day 84 Hudsriding - Stonehaugh

Away from home at last.The colds went on longer than we'd hoped so it was quite a relief to get away again!
Walked along the River Allen, then crossed the South Tyne and up hill to meet Mick, And & Jane. Mick & Jane walked with while Ann had our sacks so we could travel light.
Across the Roman Wall and we rejoined our old friend the Pennine Way.
Onto Stonehaugh.

I have only been uploading phone pics until now but have taken others on my camera. This will all change from now on as I have a new phone and can transfer from camera to phone easily - I'd much rather take pics on my trusty Fuji X10 than on the phone as it has a viewfinder!
