The tent is one of the most important pieces of kit when backpacking - ours is a Hilleburg Kaitum 2:
Not the lightest at 3Kg but very dependable and suitable for long trips for two people and a large dog!
It's large enough inside for comfortable sleeping for all and the two vestibules make for a lot of flexibility. Included are a superlight footprint to reduce wear on the groundsheet and an internal 'dog protector' to ensure Barney doesn't puncture our inflatable beds!
Before we acquired Barney we used a smaller Terra Nova tent but with the addition of a dog we had to upsize! Barney came from the UK Flat Coat Retriever rescue centre so did not cost a lot - buying a new tent however did! It's now completed many trips in the 6 years since Barney joined us including backpacking over 73 Munros.
Our Flat Coat Retriever Barney is walking the length of Great Britain with us starting 27th March 2015. The route is from Land's End to John O'Groats and is approx. 1400 miles / 2500km mostly off-road and will take about 4 months. We are doing it for fun but Barney has a mission - to collect money for Guide Dogs! Help him along the way - just click the donations tab to find out how...
